(In love with it ever since. I remember my old room had a lot of glow in the dark stars, which I patiently put one by one on the ceiling for hours. I was 14.)

There are a lot of different variations of star tattoos.  One of the most common reason for getting a star tattoo is an inner desire to be a star or the determination of reaching for the stars.

Shooting star tattoos are usually associated with a short moment in time that left a lasting impression on someone’s life.  Much the same as a true star fleeing across the night sky, they are bright and last only for a short time.  As shooting star tattoos symbolize a moment in someone’s life, the meaning is very much the same.  Maybe it was a fleeting romance, a special friend or just a special event that forever changed the wearer’s life.

Star tattoos are also often associated with actually having reached one’s goal or dream.  It could be a career, a romance or a special accomplishment that makes the wearer feel as though they have touched the star that they have reached out to for so long. The star tattoo can serve as a popular reminder.

A star tattoo may also be a choice for anyone who studies or enjoys astronomy.  In some cultures, stars were meant to signify a new birth, a significant change or the desire to achieve a better life.  A star could symbolize a bright spot in your life, which could be a child, a spouse or a special friend.

But not every image has to be a symbol or needs to be analyzed for it’s meaning.  For many, a star tattoo is simply the coolest tattoo design that will never go out of style.  As long as there is a night sky and beautiful stars to shine, this popular image will forever be a part of the natural beauty that this world has to offer.

Women often prefer that the star tattoo to be located on the ankle, lower back, hip or shoulder.  For men, the most common location for star tattoos is the upper arm.  Because they are classic, a star tattoo can be a standalone design or may be part of a more complex artistic design.

(My first tattoo is located at my lower back. Then, had it covered up with another one. So basically, this is my third one. I wanted something small and visible.)

As with most other tattoos, tattoo designs that are strategically placed on the wrist can mean many things, depending on the person’s perception of them. In centuries gone by, wrist tattoos were used to ward off all sorts of illnesses and diseases. Over the years, most of the seagoing people have relied heavily on these wrist tattoos, especially designs like the nautical star, to act as a guiding star and to bring them safely to their destination.

In modern days, people use these wrist tattoos as a source of inspiration. They claim that when the going gets rough, all they have to do is take a look at their wrist tattoo and it will help them sail smoothly through any difficulty.

However, superstitions aside, the most important thing about having a wrist tattoo is that you’ll probably choose a design that carries some special meaning and it will make you feel better every time you glance at it.
